Science Olympiad, Inc. media policy
Science Olympiad, Inc. has a media policy in an effort to protect the privacy of those involved in Science Olympiad, keep the game fair, and regulate the use of the "Science Olympiad" name. If you need help, you are always welcome to contact a staff member about a specific file.
| Examples of acceptable media use:
- Reusing published media from news sites. News media are expected to publish images of Science Olympiad competitions under Science Olympiad photo guidelines, and thus, the photos can be reused under the presumption that they meet this standard.
- Media including yourself or your child, as long as no other identifiable elements are visible in the work. These photos are allowed but cannot contain identifiable information, such as the page of a secured test or another team's device.
- School-published media of their own team. Schools can publish photos of their team at tournaments or preparing for tournaments.
- Works released by official film producers permitted by Science Olympiad, Inc. These producers are given permission to record at tournaments by the NSO office.
- Content published by the tournament host site. The host sites are allowed to photograph tournaments at their location.
- University-related media published as part of a student project. Students may film Science Olympiad tournaments as part of a university project given that they have contacted the National Science Olympiad office asking for permission and detailing the project. Note that National Science Olympiad may request these projects to be non-distributable.

| Examples of unacceptable media use:
- Media by students showing a tournament event without requesting the subject's permission. For example, if a student takes a picture of an event room with competitors, this photo is not allowed to be distributed without the competitors' or tournament's permission.
- A TV or film produced with Science Olympiad participants without the consent of Science Olympiad. Because Science Olympiad owns the right to the Science Olympiad name and associated trademarks, films must comply with this.
- Media taken by a competitor for an explicit competitive advantage. To keep the game fair, participants should not record material from Science Olympiad tournaments and use it to gain a competitive advantage for themselves or another team.
