The Virginia Tech Regional is a Division B and Division C regional hosted by the Virginia Polytechnic Institute and State University in Blacksburg, Virginia. In 2019 when Virginia felt it had too many Division C teams to fit into its normal three regional tournaments, but not quite enough teams to establish a full fourth, it turned to the organizers of the Virginia Tech Invitational to create a combination invitational-regional tournament. Teams from both inside and outside Virginia competed against each other, but only the in-state teams would be considered when determining which schools qualified for the 2019 Virginia State Tournament. In 2020 the invitational component of the tournament was removed and Division B was added.
Since the 2019-20 Coronavirus outbreak a tournament has not been held in person at Virginia Tech, but the school has provided the vast majority of volunteers for the virtual components of the 2021 and 2022 Virginia regional tournaments.
