D96 Builder Battles Invitational was a Division B invitational hosted by Woodlawn Middle School and Twin Grove Middle School at Woodlawn Middle School in the state of Illinois. This invite was a build event only invitational. Unlike a traditional Science Olympiad invite, the events were treated as either a bracket event, a heat event, or a team group event. A bracket event referred to a single or double elimination with teams competing head-to-head. A heat event referred to rounds of competitors with the best moving on to the next round. A team group event was a team versus team competition where teams had to build on the spot. The events that were bracket events were Hovercraft, Wright Stuff, Mystery Architecture, Roller Coaster, Battery Buggy, and Fast Facts. The events that were heat events were Optics and Write It Do It. Towers was the only event that ran as a team group event. There were also 3 trial events: Solar Vehicle, Indoor Bottle Rocket, and Detector Building.
