Florida is a member state of Science Olympiad in the southeastern United States. The team has a relatively large number of teams, although less invitationals are hosted in the state for its amount of teams. Approximately 7-10 regional tournaments are held annually. The culminating state tournament has historically taken place at the University of Central Florida in Orlando, but now takes place at the University of Florida.
Popular invitationals in the state include the Orlando Science Schools Invitational and the Rickards Invitational. The OSS Invitational has historically been attended by teams from Florida and its neighboring states, with little representation from other areas of the United States. Regional tournaments in the state cover each region of the state, although the number of teams at each regional varies significantly. Florida has open regional tournaments, although most teams simply choose to attend the closest regional tournament.
The state tournament takes place in the spring of each year. Since 2009, Florida has always sent two teams to the national tournament due to its size. Common national attendees in Division B include Gulf Breeze Middle School, Archimedean Middle Conservatory, and Orlando Science Middle School. Common attendees from Division C include Gulf Breeze High School, Boca Raton Community High School, and Archimedean Upper Conservatory.
History
For most of Florida's history, teams from Gulf Breeze have dominated. However, since 2010, other teams have become more competitive, giving different teams such as Archimedean Conservatory, Orlando Science School, and Boca Raton Community High School a chance to build a new dynasty.
In recent years, Boca Raton Community High School has been very successful at the state and their respective regional competitions, with both 1st and 2nd place at the 2015 state competition being taken by their teams, an achievement the repeated in 2019. Archimedean Upper Conservatory is now Boca High's contemporary rival at both the regional and state level.

Competitions
Florida observes an open regional policy. This allows a team from any county to attend the regional competition of their choice. This has been used by a variety of teams, such as Archimedean Upper Conservatory, who attend the Southeast Florida Regional in Boca Raton instead of the South Florida Regional at the University of Miami.
