As of the 2022 season, Kansas has only three regions: the Northeast, Hays, and Wichita Regions. Prior to the 2012 season, there was a fourth region, the Salina Region, which served central regions of the state, and prior to the 2012 season, there was a fifth region, the Garden City Region, which served the western portions of the state. Both regions were disbanded after a host was not able to be found. Each region hosts both a Division B and Division C tournament, but they do not always occur simultaneously. The number of bids per region varies with the size of each region, with the top half of each region typically advancing to state. Additionally, regional event winners are invited to compete at the state tournament where they are awarded medals but not included in the final ranking.

Kansas' regions are open, with teams selecting their regions during registration at the beginning of the season. Teams typically select their region based on the proximity of the location.

In the 2021 season, an additional mini SO Region was added to accommodate teams that were not then able to compete in the Satellite SO format. Additionally, due to the significantly lowered participation, all regional tournaments were non-qualifying, and any team that participated would automatically advance to state.
