Ciconiiformes are large, long-legged deep wading birds that have long bills. Some birds in the families Ardeidae and Threskiornithidae were previously listed as members of the order Ciconiiformes on previous bird lists, but they were reorganized into Pelecaniformes for the 2020 edition of the list. Birds in the family Cathartidae were also previously listed in the order Ciconiiformes, but have since been reorganized into Cathartiformes.
