ROTHFUSS. YES.
By the way, best quote ever.
"Kvothe, have you been drinking?"
"No."
"Then start."
Kvothe the raven, nevermore.

Yeah, really. And worse of all my dad is like in love with Rand, so I have to sit through lectures about how great her books are.hexagonaria wrote:I hate Anthem so much. But two of the best books ever are the name of the wind and a wise man's fear by rothfuss. He is such a great writer!!

And a capitalist dystopia isn't much better than a communist one.hexagonaria wrote:I hate Anthem so much. Don't care about other people, it could lead to a communist dystopia!314chocolate wrote:My dad and my school have made me read so many bad books, hard to choose what the worst were.....

I really did not appreciate that book's message.

Re: Worst books
I agree. Books like that make people see the world in black and white. (It's either a capitalist paradise or a communist pigeon! You're either with me or against me!)geminicross wrote:And a capitalist dystopia isn't much better than a communist one.hexagonaria wrote:I hate Anthem so much. When really, in my opinion, most complex issues have gray solutions. I concede that being totally selfless all the time is unhealthy, but that doesn't mean being totally selfish is the way to go.
Unfortunately, most fans of Ayn Rand that I've met favor taking a side to the extreme over thinking complexly about social and political issues.
This concludes my short Rand rant. Thank you for reading.

Re: Worst books
Based on what I have heard, I now have no interest in reading Ayn Rand. Maybe I'll pick up Atlas Shrugged, but I doubt I'll get very far.

Scarlet Letter. Easy.
Atlas Shrugged isn't that bad...Provides an interesting perspective to ponder about. However, I find objectivism to be just as idealistic and impractical as communism.

Re: Worst books
The Poisonwood Bible, by Barbara Kingsolver. It's one things to show an extremely prejudiced family/cast of characters, and yet another thing to drag the pace of the plot and the plot itself over the course of the first 150 out of 500 pages. I can't even begin to describe the number of problems I have with the characters and the plot, and the only way to get a true idea of it is to read it, but don't! Gargh.
I'm just going to use Sparknotes for it. And that's saying something because before this book, I've never felt the need to use it to such a degree.
