About Your Recent New Jersey Edits

Hey there lumo!

I saw you made some edits to the New Jersey page - notably, adding a Navbox for the Tournaments of New Jersey. I'm really excited to see you getting involved in the WikiProject Tournaments of States! That's really great to see, and I, along with the rest of the Science Olympiad community, thank you for the work and time you spend helping out the wiki and contributing to the WikiProject.

That being said, I noticed there were a few minor details about your recent edit that need a little improvement.

  1. The Navbox should be on its own template page - When creating a Navbox (especially when creating a Navbox for the Tournaments of States WikiProject), most of the time they will be on their own page. For example, notice how the Tournaments of Florida and Tournaments of Idaho Navboxes are on their own page, each located at Template:Tournaments of Florida and Template:Tournaments of Idaho? Please create a Template:Tournaments of New Jersey page and simply place the Navbox code there. Then, on the New Jersey page, or any other page where the Navbox should be displayed, you can simply add {{Tournaments of New Jersey}} to the page, and the Navbox will be transcluded onto the page.
  2. The Navbox should have the state flag - A Navbox for the WikiProject Tournaments of States should be fitted with the state's flag. For examples, please see one of the existing Tournaments of States Navboxes and copy the section regarding the state flag. You will likely need to upload the New Jersey state flag to the wiki. A good place to get that is here (you can download the flag and reupload it to this wiki).

Please understand that I'm not trying to heavily police your edits. These are not major issues, but for standardization and organization purposes, it's best that the standards are followed.

Thanks for your cooperation. If you need any help with any of these tasks, please don't hesitate to reach out to me or post a message on the WikiProject's talk page. Thank you. ~ Pepperonipi talk 00:30, 6 March 2020 (UTC)

Great thanks so much for the recommendations (and I see Jaspattack has already done all those things in the time between your message and now so that's good to see) - Lumosityfan (talk) 14:23, 16 April 2020 (UTC)

Template Categories

Nice work with categorizing the templates - that's something that really needed to get done. I will say that in the future, it's best to include categories within noinclude tags (e.g.<noinclude>[[Category:Templates]]</noinclude>) so that they don't show up on every page the template is used on. Otherwise, a bunch of pages are going to needlessly have the template category, and it'll be a pain to see which pages are actually templates. Thanks! --jaspattack 🧬 (talk) 17:06, 16 May 2020 (UTC)

Thanks for all that; definitely a good reminder to do that. Would that be done in the Templates page itself or the pages that the Templates would be used in? Lumosityfan (talk)

The template itself - look at Template:Link rot for example. As soon as the template code is finished the first noinclude tag is placed so that the documentation and the template's categories aren't included whenever the template is used on a page. That's also why the link rot template has includeonly tags for the cleanup category, so that it isn't placed on the template page for no reason. Hope I could help! --jaspattack 🧬 (talk) 17:33, 16 May 2020 (UTC)

Great thanks so much; that does help. Lumosityfan (talk)

A hearty cookie for you, sir
