A's With Hats

Can someone please tell me why those A things are in the equations? They're really starting to bug me and I've tried many things to get them away. Here's what I'm talking about: [math]/[/math] User:Eaststroudsburg13 16:09, 15 February 2010 (CET)

it seems to be the way that they are put in :<math>^\circ C=\frac {5}{9} \left ( ^\circ F-32 \right )</math> :<math>^\circ F=\frac {9}{5} ^\circ C +32</math>

that gives you this

[math]^\circ C=\frac {5}{9} \left ( ^\circ F-32 \right )[/math]

[math]^\circ F=\frac {9}{5} ^\circ C +32[/math]

but if you change the ^ to an A you get

[math]A\circ C=\frac {5}{9} \left ( ^\circ F-32 \right )[/math]

[math]A\circ F=\frac {9}{5} ^\circ C +32[/math]

Never mind, I figured it out. You just have to delete the / from directly in front of the math command and you're good. But it doesn't happen on Wikipedia... Eaststroudsburg13 19:37, 15 February 2010 (CET)

Awesome all i did was change "<math>^\circ C=\frac" to "<math>A\circ C=\frac"

Written Section

Based on what the rules say, I got the impression that this section should have more on the process of energy generation and transmission in addition to the new storage section. Does that actually reflect what was tested, or did tests usually not get into that sort of thing? If they didn't, I can just remove the Outdated tag. Physics Lab

Despite the fact that Wind Power was originally called "Physics Lab", I would recommend against making Physics Lab a redirect to this page. The original Physics Lab was much more geared towards Newtonian mechanics, rather than energy. A more apt comparison would be separate pages that events like Dynamic Planet have for each year's topic. If the community's preference is to get rid of the original Physics Lab page, I would really recommend adding another section on this page specifically for old Physics Lab topics. Agree.

Although it's common nature to redirect old names to a new page automatically, the content on the original Physics Lab page is very different than what is found on this page. Take a look at Wikipedia:WP:MERGEREASON (not our wiki, I know, but they are still a wiki, and maintain good practice). I don't see any of the 4 reasons being satisfied here, and think that Reason #2 or #3 for not merging is satisfied. I think East's solution would work well, such as one for topics the original event was based around and a second one for topics that the new event is based around (or maybe even more for subtopics...). That way, both are contained in the Wind Power event, and the Physics Lab information is still restored.

If you insist on keeping the merge, then you at least need to copy over the information that was lost when you deleted all of the content from the Physics Lab page. That content is not out of date, and could certainly be valuable in the future. From there, a new section(s) on this article can be made and that info can be put there.

That's fair. I think the best option is probably just to make it a subpage (e.g. Wind Power/Physics Lab) and treat it like the Dynamic Planet subtopics. I was being careless when I decided to do that without asking for opinion first. --Jaspattack (talk) 16:03, 16 March 2020 (UTC)

No you weren't. Merging and redirecting is a pretty normal thing to do with events when they switch names, it's just that in this case, the old Physics Lab material wasn't super well aligned with the new Wind Power material. This is a special case. ~ Pepperonipi ^talk 23:09, 16 March 2020 (UTC)

It was a strange, drawn-out process too. It didn't switch to Wind Power right away; it was Physics Lab/Physical Science Lab with "wind power" as the topic for a year, and then the name finally switched in 2011. Unless you'd been a competitor at the time, I wouldn't expect it to have been intuitive. EastStroudsburg13 (talk) 17:14, 18 March 2020 (UTC)
