Unnecessary Deletion

This redirect probably should not have been deleted because the redirect is not causing a problem and redirects are cheap. Please remember that deletion is a very powerful tool, and deleting any sort of page should not be taken lightly.

Good recommended reading from Wikipedia (same principles apply) on this:

  1. Wikipedia:WP:RFD#HARMFUL
  2. Wikipedia:WP:CHEAP

No harm done, but something that should be said.

If you would like to dispute this, you are welcome to.

I would like to point out that this particular page already does have one redirect (Prairie School), and a Google search (the usual way I determine what school name to use) of "Prairie School High School" only turns up "The Prairie School" and "Prairie High School" (which is in WA). Also, if one was to search "Prairie School" on this wiki, they would get two results ("Prairie School" and "Prairie School High School"), both of which redirect to the same page. I support having "The Prairie School" and "Prairie School" because of different beginnings, but I don't feel "Prairie School High School" is worth having (I created the page simply by following a redlink on Wisconsin, and East moved it to its correct name).
Thanks for letting me know, I'll be more sparing of future deletions. Tailsfan101talk 02:10, 5 April 2020 (UTC)
Just to make it easier for you to read, I'm going to talk about your points in list format.
  1. "this particular page already does have one redirect (Prairie School)" - I don't really see a reason why this matters. As talked about in the Wikipedia links above, redirects are cheap, and thus having another isn't such a big deal. Also, remember that generally, no one looks at a page's redirects, so the number of them generally doesn't matter. A lot of times, redirects are only used to help a person find the page, and each isn't relevant to the others.
  2. "a Google search (the usual way I determine what school name to use) of "Prairie School High School" only turns up "The Prairie School" and "Prairie High School" (which is in WA)" - That's a good practice, but when I did the same, I got the opposite results: I only got results based on the WI school. Probably just because we're on opposite sides of the country lol. So I wouldn't consider that really useful in this case.
  3. "Also, if one was to search "Prairie School" on this wiki, they would get two results ("Prairie School" and "Prairie School High School"), both of which redirect to the same page." - Wouldn't someone who searches "Prairie School" get this redirect? I don't really get what you're saying there.
  4. "I support having "The Prairie School" and "Prairie School" because of different beginnings, but I don't feel "Prairie School High School" is worth having (I created the page simply by following a redlink on Wisconsin, and East moved it to its correct name)." - Again, redirects are cheap. Unless they cause a problem, I don't see a reason to delete them.
Also, remember link rot. If you delete a redirect, but someone linked to the redirect outside of the wiki, their link is now dead, and goes nowhere.
Honestly, though, considering that we're having a hard time differentiating "Prairie School High School" between the two schools (think of the Google Search results), I'd recommend making the page a disambiguation page. The "Prairie School High School" name seems close enough to "The Prairie School" and "Prairie School High School" that a disambig page would work well here. Let me know what you think about that. Sorry for the lengthy response... ~ Pepperonipi talk 02:53, 5 April 2020 (UTC)
A disambiguation page sounds fine to me. I'll change it. Tailsfan101talk 15:09, 5 April 2020 (UTC)
