Mining the Mind is a Trial Event which was last run at the 2005 New Mexico state tournament for Division B and Division C. It tests students visual perception and their ability to make observations.

The Event

Mining the Mind focuses on visual perception through observations of images and artwork, identification of depth cues, constructing visual stimuli, and making inferences from data.

During the 30-minute event, a team of up to 3 will be shown a variety of photos and illustrations that they will have to identify cues portraying depth. Illusions may also be shown, and participants will have to analyze the depth cues creating the distortions. Additionally, participants may be asked to create stereo drawings and explain the visual depth effects in them.

Scoring

Points are awarded for the quality of answers and accuracy of drawings.
