Fayette Middle School is a former middle school in Fayette Co. Georgia.
(other middle schools in this county with Science Olympiad Programs include: J.C. Booth Middle School, Rising Starr Middle School, and Flat Rock Middle School) The school previously competed at Regionals, and in some cases at state. Fayette Middle was generally seen as a bubble team. The school either barely missed out on State, or edged their way into qualifying. Fayette Middle School, prior to its closing, had competed at the Gordon College regional against several competitive schools, two of which include national title holder; Rising Starr Middle School, and 2011 national competitor Holy Innocents' Episcopal School. The school is now closed, and will merge with Bennett's Mill Middle School, which historically has had a team, but did not field one for the 2013 campaign.
2010-2011
In the 2010-2011 season, the science olympiad team was under a new coach. The team placed 6th at their regional, but only the Top 5 teams would qualify for States. Scoresheets then revealed that the team missed out on States by exactly one point (as they would have won the tiebreaker).
2011-2012
At the 2012 Gordon College Regional, Fayette earned 5th place and received a plaque, only to find out that only 3 teams would qualify for State. When final results were up, Augusta Area took 1st, Holy Innocents earned 2nd, Rising Starr took 3rd, Rex Mill 4th (155 pts, won tiebreaker), and Fayette 5th (155 pts, lost 1st place tiebreaker). Surprisingly; Fayette had earned one of several Wild Card spots to state. At State Fayette placed in Microbe Mission (3rd), and Anatomy (2nd). F.M.S also took home ribbons in Food Science (9th), Water Quality (9th), and Dynamic Planet (10th). The tiger cubs finished off, 17th in the State.
2012-2013
The 2012-2013 team placed 5th overall at their regional competition, only to be informed that the Top 4 teams would qualify for state. The team did however, earn a plaque. The team also showed great improvement, placing in 2x as many events. This would be the 2nd time in three years that the team received a plaque, but not an invitation to States. This would also be the 2nd time in three years that the team was one place away from States. 2012-2013 would be the school's last year holding a Science Olympiad program (due to the school closing), but the High School also started up a science olympiad team in the same year.
