The Virginia Tech Invitational was first hosted in 2018 at the Virginia Polytechnic Institute and State University in Blacksburg, Virginia for Division C. In 2019 the school started hosting the Virginia Tech Regional instead of an invitational at the request of the Virginia state organization, as team numbers had increased and the state needed another regional. The regional became defunct following registration declines due to the COVID-19 pandemic, which led the school to return to hosting an invitational for the 2023 season. This iteration of the tournament was for Division B, as the Division C University of Virginia Invitational was planned for earlier in the season. The following year in 2024, the UVA Invitational had gone defunct, so Virginia Tech returned to hosting a Division C tournament.
