From Wiki - Scioly.org

I am currently an 8th grader competing for Sierra Vista Middle School. This is my third year participating in Science Olympiad(i did div a for a year in 6th). I've competed in road scholar(literally the best), codebusters, wheeled vehicle, widi, crave the wave, and sounds of music. I did do flight once but I was a filler lol. My favorite event by far is road scholar(I wonder who doesn't like it). I was on sierra vista's jv team(red) for all of my seventh grade year and I've been on sierra vista's varsity team(black) all of my 8th grade year. at the time of writing, we are 6 weeks out from southern california states... good luck to us !

I joined scioly in 6th because my friend asked me to fill in a spot to be their partner so I was like "sure why not..whats the worst that could happen" and ever since then I've never looked back lol. Scioly is one of my "hobbies" cuz i literally have nothing better to do other than waste my time scrolling through youtube and whatever.

the page is still insanely incomplete, but there will definetly be more info once the season concludes

Competition Thoughts 2023-2024

science showdown

ah this was the fun little tournament at the end of a week long scioly camp that was held during the summer of 2023. all i remember was that I somehow got 3rd for wheeled even though i eyeballed everything to aim and wind. I also remember that it was the first time i got to meet and talk to my teamnates for the 2023-2024 season... which I would never forget.

sv scrimmage

this was basicaly the opening ceremony to our 2023-2024 season. this was an invitational held basically for the entire team of Sierra Vista. I was proud of my results which were three 1st places and a 2nd place. I still remember the weekslong grind up to this tournament which would decide my fate for the majority of the season... and I performed !

jokrs

this is basically moc oc regionals at the very start of the year. schools like osca, jeffery trail, and sierra vista attend this casual invitatoinal. again, this was more like a scrimmage and was important for our team rankings. I performed pretty well(i fell off a bit in code) and placed with two 1st places and two 2nd places.

highlands

this was our first virtual tournament of the year(it was a mess for the new sevis doing it on scilimpiad). we normally do this virtual tournament as the first every year so it was pretty routine for me. I do remember that everyone soloed this comp so I guess i should be happy for my placings.

rickards

eh this tournament was kinda mid. i took like half of my events in atlanta since this was our walkthrough for dodgen. i just remember taking the code test while still being half asleep and recording wheeled vehicle in a gym in the middle of no where. oh and also i got dq in code cuz of out of browser time lets go

dodgen

first in-person comp of the year! we didn't go to uta this year, so this was basically its replacement. I still remember flying into Atlanta Hartsfield Jackson International and arriving at the hotel like at 11 at night. I still remember walking across the street in the dark to pick up dinner at buffalo wild wings 💀(literally the scariest experience ever). I also remeber driving to the high school and how it was literally the biggest and best high school i've ever seen. I will never forget how big and clean the gym was, although I did kinda bomb wheeled

overall, great experience and it was a very fun first(basically the 2nd to last) travel competition with the new team

bay academy

dick smith

camas

this was our second (and probably final) travel comp of the year. portland was an amazing city with great weather and spectacular views. i remember this tournament very well cuz it was definetly my best run wheeled vehicle considering results and partner cooperation. i dont remember the road test but i do remember messing up the code timed question thinking that "torch" is "touch" which kinda messed me up to like 8 mins of smth. i also remember this tournamnet cuz i nearly lost my brand new ipad at the airport 😅

troy

this was our first official competitive tournament of the season. the test were great and it was great to meet and speak to a lot of the troy team members. my placements were alright, a 4rd, 2nd, and 2nd. there wasn't much that was very significant about this tournament but we did (somehow) beat kennedy gold in code which i will definetly remember for the rest of my life 😃

birdso

definetly the tournament that was the best experience of the year. usc campus was amazing and the tests were definelty top 3 in the year. hanging out with the team on campus and hosting awards on a football field was insane. the bad thing was that parking was kind of a mess and we had to wake up wayyyyy tooo early. despite the fact it was national level specs, we still performed well with a 1st, 2nd, and 3rd. first overall too for sierra vista woohoo

stemboost

lowkey one of the best online comps of the season. i kinda popped off in wheeled with 2 cm from target point and got first 😋. the tests were also very high quality and the event supervisors were rlly chill. awards was pretty lit and our team took first place overall!! mvhs and kms def made this a top tournament of the year :D (although i got 8th in code but whatever thats normal)

sv invitational

def one of the best run invitationals of the year(no bias lol). the tests were insane quality and the proctors were all very chill. widi didn't go great but everything else went alright. idk how i got 6th in wheeled our car oscillated so far it went from one wall of the track all the way back to the target point and hit 4 cm 🤓

regionals

probably my best performing tournament of the year other than the scrimmages. i got two 1sts and a 3rd. the tests were kinda mid like damn a 16 question code test is crazy. i remember ocsa maxing it out cuz they did the xeno and we couldnt :( and leaving 30 mins early. road was crazy me and brandon kinda popped off. wheeled was meh but it was good enoiugh to take first. a good start to the postseason fr !

ocsa invite

lowkey a very fun tournament. wheeled was kinda sad cuz like 10th accounted for 1/5 of the teams score but whatever. i remember it was a pretty nice day at ocsa campus and in n out for lunch was fire lol. first place in road was pretty nice being able to beat out second place by 30 points. AHHHHH I WILL ALWAYS REMEMBER THIS INVI CUZ WE GOT FIRST IN CODE FOR LIKE LITERALLY THE FIRST TIME LETS GO BRANDON AND LYDIA

SOCAL States

bro this was literally the scariest tournament of my entire scioly career. i still remember awards where we were literally counting points on how many times ocsa beat us and how many times we beat them. ill also never forget this tournament cuz wheeled got messed up. so heres the thing... the track literally got set up wrong(the can bonus line was put like 10 cm closer than it was supposed to be) and that kinda messed us up. its dissapointing but whatever same for everyone. first in road though on tables in a college lecture hall that were literally smaller than a clipboard(remember we still have to look at maps in road.......). CODE WE GOT FIRST AGAIN AHH TWO IN A ROW ITS ACTUALLY CRAZY ME BRANDON LYDIA POPPED OFF. (oh btw sv took first overall AND WE ARE BACK TO NATIONALS FOR A 3PEAT). looking forward to nationals and michigan state university

LIKE 1:20 TIMED QUESTION?!!!!!! THATS GOTTA BE A RECORD

2024 National Tournament

Disappointing ending to the season with a 6th place team overall finish at Nats. Yet with the underwhelming finish, I do think we had a relatively successful season. My personal placings were solid with 2nd in Code, 5th in Road, 7th in Wheeled. After putting in so much work for the entirety of the year, I was able to deliver for my team in the end. Even with a 6th place finish, our team has come an incredible distance I mean at the beginning of the year most of us thought we wouldn't even make it past regionals. I take this as a chance to reflect and to really see how I've been able to truly grow during my 8th grade year.
