I've noticed that on our team, there's a few events each year that it's hard to find anyone who actually wants to do. What are those events for your team?
On ours, Rocks and Minerals was one (why I ended up in it), and now Disease Detectives, Anatomy, and Remote Sensing are the events no one wants.

2008(C):Food Chemistry, Rocks and Minerals, Fermi Questions, Disease Detectives (as a backup in case of conflicts)
2009:Environmental Chemistry, Forensics, Astronomy, TPS (as backup)

Fossils. Although the people who took over did well at Regionals. I think I was the only person on the team who had an interest in It's About Time, but I have never been able to do it because of schedule conflicts.

Physical Science Lab
We ended up just basically assigning one person to build the turbines (namely me... again) and someone else to to do the academic portion (which they did not...). It seems no one in the state wants to do this, since last year we hid pretty crappy turbines and completely and utterly failed on the test (we hardly knew what a kilowatt-hour was) and came in the top 50%

Remote Sensing and Environmental Chemistry for us. I ended up doing remote sensing, not doing half bad on it, but it was still a hassle.

haha, it seems like fossils is an event that no one likes. i have to say, same with us...although i was actually interested in the event, which is why im competing in it. but even still, fossils is definitely one of the ones that just isnt that popular on our team. also maybe disease detectives, and shock value...

Most of the time, the event that no one wants also happens to be a trial event. For us, our state trial was Rock my world. Boringest. Event. Ever. Disease detectives and Anatomy are actually really popular (especially Anatomy). The events no one wants are usually
1) events with less than competent people on it (i.e. Physical Science Lab)
2) events that sound boring (i.e. Fossils)
3) events that have not done well in the past and seem hopeless (i.e. Physical Science Lab... again)
sewforlife: I was already balancing 5 events that I really really really wanted. There was no way the coaches would even allow me more and DP was an event that I only had halfway wanted until I competed in it at States.
