Re: Illinois 2020
Oswego East and Joliet West's regionals scores were almost double Waubonsie's. Don't forget Waubonsie was in the top 10 from 2014-2018 and historically do significantly better at state and sometimes regionals than at invitationals. With their regionals placing, I wouldn't be surprised to see them back in the top 10 this year.

Re: Illinois 2020
I was referring to their score from Joliet West (https://app.avogadro.ws/il/joliet-west- ... ational-c/) which was where I made that observation about the "margin closing in." Maybe a look at those scores might give you some context into what I was thinking. With that, I agree with everything you said. I was there competing in 2014-2018 and saw them at their best, so I know what they're capable of. It's clear that they improved significantly since that invite and did fantastic at their regional, and I'm glad to see it!musabkaz6173 wrote: ↑Mon Mar 02, 2020 6:51 amOswego East and Joliet West's regionals scores were almost double Waubonsie's. Re: Illinois 2020
You do bring up a good point though. (Forgot to consider it in my predictions!) Seems like Waubonsie went unstacked for the Joliet invite. Superscoring the team gets within top 10 and close to top 5. (I need to superscore every team to be sure on that!) From the outcomes of regionals, it is no doubt that they (along with Metea) are in the running to make top 10 again. Honestly, it's going to be a really close race!musabkaz6173 wrote: ↑Mon Mar 02, 2020 6:51 amOswego East and Joliet West's regionals scores were almost double Waubonsie's. I understand now. There were actually scoring errors with Waubonsie's tests at Joliet West in 3 different events. Fossils and Geologic Mapping scores were mixed up between Varsity and JV-1, and Varsity was given a 34th (out of 33 teams) in Detector Building, even though they had a working device that did not get tiered and did relatively well on the written test (~ 80 %). Ranked properly, Waubonsie was actually 5th or 6th at the Joliet West invitational. The rankings are not updated on avogadro, so I see why people were thrown off.Nydauron wrote: ↑Mon Mar 02, 2020 7:25 am You do bring up a good point though. (Forgot to consider it in my predictions!) Re: Illinois 2020
I heard a claim that the D204 schools weren't taking their state bids again. (That's Gregory, Scullen, and Granger from your list, plus Still, Hill, and Fischer who finished lower down.)chrroh wrote: ↑Sun Mar 01, 2020 9:57 am Neuqua Valley

If that's true (and I don't know that it is), then there were 17 teams registered for this regional. Two did not compete, and six more teams are not being permitted to advance to state by the school district, which leaves nine teams actually competing for state bids, one of which only entered half the events. Which would leave eight state bids for effectively eight teams competing, which seems a little silly.
(Also, does anyone know why Game On got thrown out?)
Re: Illinois 2020
"Division B and C teams can bring up to 12 alternates to the state tournament. Alternates will receive a wristband and will be eligible to compete in the trial events." (http://www.illinoisolympiad.org/state.html)
Does 12 alternates mean there will be 6 trial events at state this year? Are there any rumors on what the trial events will be? Does anyone know when trial events will be announced?

Re: Illinois 2020
They're usually not announced until all the regionals have happened. If it follows the pattern of previous years, there will be Geocaching at B and C levels, and probably Pentathlon for B, and there will be a couple of the events that are probably coming next year (Electric Wright Stuff? WiFi Lab again? Crave the Wave / It's about Time?)musabkaz6173 wrote: ↑Mon Mar 02, 2020 11:26 am Are there any rumors on what the trial events will be? Maybe codebusters for B, because it's easy to set up and run.
