), steering was way off. The buggy traveled in a straight line, but it was angled for a nice bonus, so it hit the wall... both runs... my caliper setting was right, but it just didn't work idk why...

I don't think calipers would be usually inaccurate, I'd think it's just wear overtime. Considering the stopping of the car puts a lot of stress on the tooths of the caliper, it wouldn't surprise me if a few wore down or broke.MadCow2357 wrote:Thanks! So every rotation of the dial is supposed to be 1/10 of an inch, iirc, but that's clearly not happening according to the scale intervals on the caliper itself. For example when it is measuring 1.56 inches, the dial might read 1.59 or 1.51. Actually it's way worse than that, but it's just hard to explain how bad it is. I was showing the local high schoolers how caliper steering worked, and doing that could have messed up the readings? Doesn't make sense lol. Also the "durable plastic case" has split in half...

Not completely sure about the material of the teeth (metal I think), but I assure you the caliper is really really bad - I can show you in person at nationals if you would like. In retrospect, it probably had something to do with cutting off too many parts off of the caliper with an angle grinder and because the high school teacher "took it apart for research purposes".
