EDIT: I guess the more important question in this post is how do you make it break while going backwards (in case not all of the above questions can be answered).
- In order to get the vehicle to stop at a particular point, most people use a wingnut braking system.

Steering:
- I don't know exactly how to put together a caliper system, but this may give you some insight on steering >> https://www.docfizzix.com/topics/constr ... ring.shtml
- In caliper steering, one side of the steering axle has to be movable. The movable part is attached to the caliper in order to use the caliper to measure axle offset distance.
Material:
- My team used an entirely 3D printed chassis with some carbon fiber supports to prevent it from flexing
- You can build from carbon fiber, but this is pretty costly and is unsafe if not worked with properly
- You can also 3D print a chassis (at least 2 perimeters and 25% infill) or laser cut one from acrylic
- Pieces of wood can be used as well, though I wouldn't recommend balsa because of how easily it breaks
