Indeed, I typically found it easier to use binders, though I never referred to my notes much in the actual event. It was my favorite event, so it was fun to just print a news article, stuff it in the binder, read it, and highlight it...I'm a bit weird maybe. I do know, though, that when I competed, whether it was with a 3" or a 5", nobody could navigate their laptop faster than I could with a binder (we actually timed this once). Don't get me wrong, it's definitely possible to use laptops with *equal* success, but having more information with worse organization is ultimately worse.Adi1008 wrote:Some people find binders easier to organize or are able to locate pages faster with a binder. (chances are our Hovercraft team's binder is no more than a few pages)

Re: Binder Thickness
with the two binder events i've done, road scholar was a two inch that had barely anything in it, and thermo is (i believe) one inch but is almost completely full.
idk what to put here so i'll just type something cringey random!

Re: Binder Thickness
My Road Scholar binder was an inch and a half, but only one inch of that was actually used. My old Wind Power Binder was an inch and a half binder stuffed to the brim (for the record, I hated that event), and Parasitology when I did it as a trial for some invitationals (that was fun), was an inch that was stuffed to max capacity.

Re: Binder Thickness
I used to have a 4" binder for Invasives, but I found that it's way more effective and easy to navigate to just cut it down. I just use a smaller font size now and keep the thickness at 2" max

Re: Binder Thickness
I agree with this and also used a 2" binder for invasives and found it very effective. Smaller font is a fair price to pay for quick navigation. My partner liked it and found a way to keep it to 2" with her herpetology binder (manual condensing)birdylayaduck08 wrote:I used to have a 4" binder for Invasives, but I found that it's way more effective and easy to navigate to just cut it down. Re: Binder Thickness
I do both Rocks and Minerals and Herpetology, and both are pretty thick. Probably like 2.5 inches thick each? We’ve had to reprint ours several times though, because the pages get ripped out so easily. Quite annoying, and we’ve jammed our printers at least twice.
