Reading the 2018 rules now. I do not think the build has changed. Test parameters don't look too complicated.

The permitted materials seem less restrictive than the last time this event was run.

Aerogels are allowed, as far as I can tell; I was intrigued to see that.Skink wrote:The permitted materials seem less restrictive than the last time this event was run.

Aerogels are allowed,.[/quote]Skink wrote:.
Don't know if this is good or bad news. Good because well obviously. But bad because everyone has access to same materials so might make make the build more competitive.

In the past, aerogels were prohibited because they were exceptionally good insulators (in fact, possibly the best available - see here) and were also very expensive.Ashernoel wrote: R aerogels like important? I'm clueless 0.0

Re: Thermodynamics B/C
The question becomes, naturally, how much of this stuff is reasonably needed for effectiveness/how easy it is to work with/etc. I was quoted an ugly figure earlier today for how much a few cubic centimeters would cost...

Re: Thermodynamics B/C
key word, expensive
feels like this gives teams with a bigger budget too much of an edge...
