GPS has never been a large part of Remote Sensing. Remote Sensing deals more with satellite imagery from different NOAA and NASA missions than it does GPS. I don't think I've ever seen GPS on a Remote Sensing test, it fits better with Road Scholar.

Isn't Remote Sensing more images? It would seem harder to do GPS with that, but maybe I should wait for my first competition before I speak.

Oh...I don't exactly know what Remote Sensing is, so... I've never seen GPS on a Road Scholar test though. If GPS will be on the rules this year, what do you guys think the questions about GPS will be like?

I'm not sure... I think they should focus more on UTM before moving to GPS. I was disappointed not to see a question about it last year.

A UTM question? I think there was one on the Nats test last year.

I don't think one is enough. A lot of people last year asked what it was, and I was hoping for at least a short section at state. I think that even if they introduce GPS as a sixth topic, there wouldn't be many questions on it based on UTM from last year. Does anyone have the draft rules for this event? If GPS is included it will be shown there.

Sorry, this is off topic, but it's something I've always wondered: does the number in a lake on a topo map mean the surface elevation or depth of the lake? I have a feeling it's the surface elevation, but I'm not sure.

If I remember correctly it is surface elevation.
However there is the possibility of descending contours in a lake i think if you look on maps that show the Great Lakes Shoreline you will see descending contours look at this map

I've never done this event-
on the wiki it says

Road Scholar is split up into three sections: Topographic maps, or quadrangles, state highway maps, and map drawing.

Is this always the case? Will it always be these three?

As far as I know (from my limited time doing this event) it's the same every year. I have to ask my friend- he's a map genius, according to our Earth Science teacher. And a road scholar fanatic.
