New Trier Northfield High School used to compete in the Illinois Science Olympiad Division C competition. In the past, they were an all freshman team that feeds into the New Trier Winnetka High School, which has a history for winning the state competition. They competed in a different regional that the Winnetka team, and they generally competed in the small school division at States.

When the Northfield campus opened in 2001, they immediately started a Science Olympiad team that would be able to feed into the higher school. Though they struggled in their early years, they soon became a regular force at regionals and a contender in the state Small School division.

In the fall of 2018, after 17 years, the freshmen have rejoined the upperclassmen at the Winnetka campus. Now, there is one New Trier Science Olympiad team: New Trier High School
