So do you guys interpret this as the loading block can be designed to be supported at any level above the testing platform, so long as no part of the bridge starts out below the testing plane?

Are you referring to the fact that there seems to no minimum height, so there doesn't necessarily have to be "legs" on the bridge?

If I remember correctly, in years past, the rules have always specified the height of the mounting block in relation to the testing platform. Some years, it was to bear on top the bridge at height greater than X above the testing platform, while other years it had to be within X of the testing platform. In some years, there were as many as 3 potential loading zones that the designer needed to consider. None of this seems to apply at this point, and even the consideration of a top load or bottom load structure seems to be left totally to the designer.

Warning, never, EVER use trial rules as anything but an indication of the nature of a future event.

Building and testing devices to them will help you become a better builder so you can compete better next year, yes. And that's a valuable thing to do in and of itself.

But don't plan on those devices meeting the offical rules for next year. Sometimes not much changes, sometimes a lot does.

Good point Jeff... I was referring to this year's trial rules... not trying to anticipate what next year would bring.
