MINNESOTA Keep The Heat In

Post by jazzy009 »

Hey for all of you in Minnesota I am about to start building my KTHI model and I was wondering how much the temperature should be expected to drop. I've been playing around with the efficiency formula and I'm thinking dropping from 60*C to 50*C after 20 minutes would be pretty good considering how fast water would cool without any insulation. Any thoughts?

I'm from PA but I wish that Keep the Heat was a trial even here. For people who don't compete, it takes work and I think it sounds like a challenge. I also saw Keep the Heat 1994 and I have no idea what the difference is.

The only reason we have KTH is because it's too cold in minnesota to do egg-o-naut... i guess they didn't want to go outside during winter for those eggs. it is definitely a fun event to build and participate in. I think it's fun because you get to build as well as take a mini test which is based mostly on math...which i also enjoy.

So when do you start practising for Egg-O-Naut?

Exactly. Does the team that is going to nationals have to build an egg-o-naut only for nationls and not for regionals or states?

new lesson: never use industrial strength super glue on polystyrene... it burns it. and turns it into a gas...fail.

I'm from Wisconsin, but competed in this event at the Wayzata. Having no other Minnesota invites, I can let you in on my secret ;)

Remembering correctly, I took sixth place, but I know I bombed the test portion. We used a type of commercially-made insulation that is made up of bubble-wrap that is covered in a tin/aluminum foil.

Silly? I know but it worked amazingly for us. Best of all, the devices had to fit in a 30 cm cube. Remembering correctly, 95% of the other devices took full advantage of this full cube – our device fit in a 13-15cm cube, and the weight of the device does have a negative effect on the score.

Good Luck Guys ;)
