So excited for this event! Can we have a thread for like the Rocks and Minerals Question Marathon but for trees? That would be very helpful.

I am absolutely shocked that they kept the Audubon-based 2004 format. Any thoughts about still going to use a non-Audubon guide?

That's what I was about to say. Audobon isn't very good for competition but you're supposed to ID things without the help of your guide right? So if you just know whether that tree is in the East or West then you can just as easily find the tree as any other book. But still, it comes in two volumes which is a disadvantage. If I'm not getting Audobon, I'm getting Sibley for reasons I stated in the Preliminary Thread.

Question: How are you guys distinguishing bark? Do you describe it? Or do you just memorize how it looks? I'm finding it hard to distinguish bark.
