Device Sound

Hello!

My partner and I were wondering about a specific part of our device testing. Are the event supervisors only measuring the first noise made? In other words, can our device make a prolonging noise, where the first noise made by our device would mean the end of the time interval?

Rule 5 II e: You will demonstrate your end signal to the supervisor. Rule 5 II f: Timers will stop when the signal is audible.

So yes, your device can ring a bell that lasts for several seconds, or drop a clanger that bounces, or whatever, and you can say that the first clang is your time reference, and the ES should use that.

Please consider the words "non-electrical" in rule 1.

Nothing that is part of your device may use electricity.

You may, of course, use an electronic balance during the construction of your device, or in its calibration, but not as part of your device.

What's a good score for the device testing section of the event?

A real good score is probably like a 42/45 but that's pretty hard to pull off especially when timing in this event depends slightly on human error.

How precise is the time given (tenths, hundredth etc..)? Would they ask us to time exactly 15 seconds, or like 15.6 seconds?
