Nationals results
Well, once again, JC Booth won this highly contested event. If anyone knows times, and whether people were flying on the nationals bonus wing or not, please post here!

Re: Nationals results
I think I heard that Booth got around 8 minutes without using the bonus.eta150 wrote:Well, once again, JC Booth won this highly contested event. If anyone knows times, and whether people were flying on the nationals bonus wing or not, please post here!

Re: Nationals results
Booth did great, but not 8 minutes. I didn't time them other than looking at a clock on the wall, but I believe they were around 4:30 prior to factoring in the bonus.
Re: Nationals results (and recap)
Results at Nationals- Top 10
PLACE
1 Booth- 5:18.28 (318.28 plus wing bonus)
2 Marie Murphy School-5:04
3 Strath Haven- 4:40.53
4 Arendell Parrott Acad.- 4:23.25
5 Bearden MS-4:16.44
6 Kenwood Trail MS- 4:11.63
7 ExCel Homeschoolers- 4:04.59
8 Paul Galinas JHS- 3:59.36
9 Eagle Hill MS- 3:55.11
10 Thomas Jefferson MS- 3:54.16
The air was near perfect although one team filed an arbitration because the "air conditioning was on". Turns out that the motor noise being heard came from a compressor for a computer room system and was not an air conditioner.
Booth's Flight was amazing that featured their 6 cm wing chord. Winning the event meant that their two competitors also were awarded the AMA's Scholarship Award of $2,500.00 each. The Marie Murphy"s team's over 5 minute flight was also outstanding as their flight was the only flight to physically punch through the 5 minute ceiling.
Otherwise, the Ill University bent over backwards to allow teams ample opportunity to trim fly. The Friday afternoon flying was a hit and lasted from 1-5 pm. In Saturday's competition we allowed trim flying at one end worked fine as well. Airplane designs were more mixed than before and most were very nice fliers. Helicopter exceeded expectations. There were more teams than expected in the Helicopter competition and a few had flights around two minutes. I will allow Jeff Anderson to fill in more on that event.
There were only a couple of Wright Stuff flights that were under a minute with average flight times well over 2 minutes. The flight performance in Wright Stuff has progressed steadily over the past 14 years and all students and coaches associated with the Wright Stuff event should be proud of that achievement.
Look for Wright Stuff to come back as C Div event in 2013. Thanks to all who were enthusiasts of the event and you may continue indoor flying by joining the AMA and flying in their indoor contests. Good Luck in the future.

Re: Nationals results
Flying 4 min. in practice, plane blew up first flight...
Just bad luck I guess, seeing as I've put in days and days without this happening before. At least I got two medals!!!

Re: Nationals results
I must've heard wrong; sorry for the misinformation. Anyway, from the few helicopters I saw, it looked like they went up well, but then stalled and fell fairly quickly. Is that what they're supposed to do?talicoa wrote:Booth did great, but not 8 minutes. Re: Nationals results
The bonus was 40%. I know that at least Strath Haven and Booth used it.
