Jeffrey Trail Invitational Results:
1) Kennedy Gold (79)
2) Jeffrey Trail Blue (96)
3) Kraemer Gold (145)
4) Jeffrey Trail Orange (216)
5) Carmel Valley Oppenheimer (236)
6) Chaparral A (275)
7) Mesa Robles Blue (310)
8) Sierra Vista Europa (389)
9) Carmel Valley Curie (404)
10) Dana Red (432)
Thank you all for coming out to our first invitational! Special thanks to Portola High School and the Irvine Unified School District for the support and allowing us to use their beautiful campus, showing how successful a program can be with support from their higher-ups. Also a huge shoutout to all the parent volunteers from attending teams and student volunteers from Troy HS, Sunny Hills HS, Portola HS, University HS, Northwood HS, Canyon HS, Canyon Crest Aca., Torrey Pines HS, and Westview HS who helped make this the smoothest running invitational we've had so far. Despite the size of the invitational (70 teams after accounting for no-shows!), we managed to finish grading all tests an hour and a half after events ended and all ranking done by 5:30 PM, half an hour later. This was so fast that we actually had to wait another hour to officially start awards because we had so many stalling activities planned. There were a few mishaps here and there (broken glass in lab events, volunteers from attending teams showing up to events late, etc.), but overall everything went according to plan.
We also thank all the individuals who volunteered to write the exams for the invitational. This was our first year trying out the model of outsourcing test writing to experts and high level competitors in order to create a more fair testing environment and relieve the burden of proctoring from coaches from attending schools. It proved to be a great success, and we are definitely going to be following this model in the future with experience under our belts.
Thanks to all the sponsors who helped provide gift cards to the winners of each event as well as print all the exams for the competition day. Thanks to Josh and Hope Finn of J&H Aerospace for hosting an Elastic Launched Gliders workshop on Friday and sponsoring the event. Also thanks to Jack from Aerovate, who helped us host a paper airplane and glider competition for elementary school students, bringing us another step closer to getting younger students involved in Science Olympiad and STEM.
Finally, thanks to Mr. Shaun Evola and Mr. Todd Munoz for organizing the entire invitational. None of this would have been possible without the two of them getting everything organized. We hope to see everyone back next year!
- Tim

OC Regionals, top 5 announced. Scores unreleased yet.
Div B:
5) Orange County School of the Arts (Santa Ana)
4) Rancho San Joaquin MS (Irvine)
3) Sierra Vista MS (Irvine)
2) Kraemer MS (Placentia)
1) Jeffrey Trail (Irvine)
Kraemer and Jeffrey Trail medalled in every event except Kraemer in WQ. A large number of events were Kraemer/JT for 1st and 2nd.
Div C:
5) Portola HS (Irvine)
4) Sunny Hills HS (Fullerton)
3) Northwood HS (Irvine)

Not really any surprises. Based on only top 5 trophies in both divisions I'm assuming only top 5 make states. Congrats to everyone who made it!

Forgot to mention that B Teams also competed in a separate competition that used the same tests as the A Team's but scored and ranked separately with a separate awards ceremony. Troy B won with a score of 30.
