Pennsylvania 2010

Post by Deeisenberg »

This is a thread for discussion of Science Olympiad in Pennsylvania in both B division and C division for the 2009-2010 season.

Below are a list of unofficial (not official competition related) events...

Athens Area High School Division C Invitational
Takes place in Athens, PA, about 4hrs from Philadelphia, 3hrs from Allentown, Albany, or State College, 2hrs from Syracuse, or 5.5hrs from Pittsburgh.
Last year this took place in mid-January.

Tiger Division C Invitational
Takes place near Allentown at Northwestern Lehigh High School.
Last year this took place in early February.
In the past they have been unable to run all events. This will not necessarily be true this year (nor is it necessarily untrue, I cannot confirm either way.)
Events: Herpetology, Fossils, Entomology, Rocks & Minerals, Ornithology, Ecology
Nationals 2008: 1st in Herpetology
Nationals 2009: 1st in Herpetology, 2nd in Fossils

Because then it gets way too cluttered. This way, only stuff pertaining to 2010 will be discussed, and without the super long threads. I personally like it.

ooph that was harsh. not sure I disagree, but wow. =).

I miss the days when WV was a contender... We'll see how BC hangs on, but I'm betting it'll be Sewickley and SS again next year. It's far too early to say, obviously, but...

I do think we'll see some shakeups in C division though...

Good luck to BC!

I am from WV, formerly at least. I was there for the '05 through '07, including the two recent years we got into the top 5 at States. WV is still very good, especially in the build events and a couple of the studies, and I don't expect them to drop out of the top 4 at SE regionals anytime soon, but they're no threat to be at nationals in the near future, I don't think. Who knows - I hope they prove me wrong!

It's really early to predict this stuff, but I'd say that the two teams headed to nationals will probably be two of these teams:
Sewickley
Shady Side
Bala Cynwyd
Strath Haven(Hopefully)
