Do you guys know where a good source would be to get to the more complicated mathematics portion of this event? I think I have built a good basis already and am ready to try to reach for another level.

I have this college textbook about astrophysics. I don't know where to get it; I got it at a summer camp.

The equations are pretty easy if you've already taken Alg 2. If you haven't...learn logs and you're pretty much set. Ask me anything else if you need it.

Would a test from last year be useful? Was the event different? Were the DSO's different? Cause I'm looking at a test from last year and I'm lost.... I'm hoping that's because the topic is at least slightly different.

Yep, the topic last year was much different - Active and Normal Galaxies as opposed to this year's topic of Stellar Evolution.

Yep, last year was AGNs and things like that; this year is stellar evolution...pretty different. And the DSOs for this year are all new (compared to last year), so most of last year's tests are completely irrelevant to this year. However, the math stays basically the same from year to year, so that's definitely useful, to get a sense of what the questions are like (although difficulty of the math definitely varies from test to test).

Fewwww. Okay, thanks! Haha that's a relief. I was really worried.. ;)

Also does anyone have an idea on what types of questions we will be asked? I mean I know the topic but I can't find a good practice test because they're all from last year....

Just for clarification, are we allowed to bring iPads, instead of or with another laptop?

Yes, I'd wager an iPad counts as a tablet computer: http://soinc.org/node/880
