What has happened is that Sewickley's coach is not going to continue coaching this year. This likely means that the team will be unable to find a coach which would prevent it from competing. However the only thing that I know to be true is that the coach from the past is no longer continuing in that post.

That's huge news by itself, I mean, Sewickley was a non-issue before coach Erler joined.

Maybe that's what they're doing now and they'll be right back to dominating states on April 30. Too bad there's no Sewickley people on here, at least that I know of. We could ask them. :(
It's not really necessary to have a good coach to have a good team. What really matters is that the students are willing to go out and do what has to be done by themselves.

Well, if it's like our school, there needs to be someone overseeing the group. He could just be a supervisor and essentially do nothing, but they probably need someone to watch them and the other teachers there feel like they need to do a lot of work to live up to their reputation.

I just can't understand why they would stop doing it even if their coach left. Personally, I would try to get a team going at my school if there wasn't one. Surely there has to be some Sewickley kids trying to start up SO again...

That's the problem with building an entire organization around a single person; that person left, so the organization does too

I dunno, people should be in Science Olympiad because they enjoy the experience and like science, not because they like the coach especially. That helps a lot, but it shouldn't be the main reason you do Science O.
