'nuff said.dudeincolorado wrote:Eh. There's no use arguing over binders and field guides; whatever the rules are, will be the rules, can't change that. But, isn't that part of the challenge? My mindset is that if it works for you, keep it. If you feel like you're doing well equally relying on a field guide and a binder then all the power to you, same goes for the more binder heavy and guide heavy people too.
I wish I could just go and buy that birds field guide.. dang it. but 20 dollars is good.

Re: Ornithology B/C
the kaufman guide is good for identification because its got real live pics of the birds next to their descriptions and range
(its got a scarlet tanager on the front)

I read once that it is better to get a field guide with illustrations rather than actual photos, because a photo could capture the bird in an awkward position that could make the bird more difficult to identify in other pictures.oh joy wrote:the kaufman guide is good for identification because its got real live pics of the birds next to their descriptions and range

When it comes to the future, there are three kinds of people: those who let it happen, those who make it happen, and those who wonder what happened.

That's a good point to consider. Never thought about that. But then again, you might misunderstand something about an illustration because it wasn't portrayed well. It all depends on the field guide. If you have an illustrated field guide, I would suggest also printing out some real pictures. But rely equally on both. I guess.

Re: Ornithology B/C
I'm was trying to submit a FAQ or request a rules clarification on the line:
"(teams may tab the guide and write on any of these)."
[[May the teams put sticky notes in their guides and then write on these? Or tape peices of paper inside the guides?"]]
But for some strange reason they have a note saying "Questions received after April 15, 2009 will not receive a reply. " on the FAQ...
