I'm guessing quite a few teams decide not to do robo-cross.

Yeah out of the national events that was the event with the least participants. But the actual event with the least number of participants was our trial event Sumo Bots.

Sumo-bots seems really hard, but would be incredibly fun to compete in.

We don't know, it's just a rule.
Actually, the reason I heard (and this may be a myth) is that the directors want other teams to get a chance to medal because Gelinas always medals in everything. They wanted to have a couple of events that other teams could get first in.
By the way, I know that sounds kinda conceited, but I didnt make it up, thats the reason I heard.
2009 events:
Fossils: 1st @ reg. 3rd @ states (stupid dinosaurs...) 5th @ nats.
Dynamic: 1st @ reg. 19thish @ states, 18th @ nats
Herpetology (NOT the study of herpes): NA
Enviro Chem: 39th @ states =(
Cell Bio: 9th @ reg. 18th @ nats
Remote: 6th @ states 3rd @ Nats
Ecology: 5th @ Nats

That could be possible. But I kinda think that that's kind of stupid that people can't suck it up and try to do better than Gelinas. The reason Gelinas wins is probably because they dedicate more time than every other team.
