My team can measure the ratios of the 3 weights in ~25-30 seconds.scio_musca wrote:Hi,
Wanted to find out what times other schools are getting for measuring the ratios for the 3 weights. We are currently able to complete measuring the ratios for the 3 weights in 2 minutes and 30 seconds. Is this good enough to do well at regionals and state?

Yeah, we can probably do the same, but that's competitive even at Nationals (last year's average for top 10, as stated earlier on this thread, was in that range with only two weights)mjcox2000 wrote:My team can measure the ratios of the 3 weights in ~25-30 seconds.scio_musca wrote:Hi,

Those numbers stated earlier in this thread for top 10 at Nats were for Division C. I do not recall seeing the numbers for Division B. The mean time at nationals for Division C was 77 seconds for all teams that competed.

Oh those were C? I must have forgotten that. Modifying my previous response, The Div B time scores will probably be better than the C ones (cause that double lever is tricky to work withJonB wrote:Unome wrote:Yeah, we can probably do the same, but that's competitive even at Nationals (last year's average for top 10, as stated earlier on this thread, was in that range with only two weights)mjcox2000 wrote: My team can measure the ratios of the 3 weights in ~25-30 seconds.

Re: Simple Machines B/Compound Machines C
I know its late in the game but we just got this event thrown at us. I know many of you competed in this event last year and wanted to get a few things clear before we start the build.
Do the masses include the weight of the "loops" provided?
Is the 20cm dimension given for the masses represent the height?

Yes, but the weight of the loops are usually negligible (fishing line, weighs next to nothing)joeyjoejoe wrote:I know its late in the game but we just got this event thrown at us. I know many of you competed in this event last year and wanted to get a few things clear before we start the build.

Yes, L, W, H

Re: Simple Machines B time to measure ratios of 3 weights
We can measure and calculate in about 50 seconds. I recommend writing a calculator program. (This is C, but same deal.)scio_musca wrote:Hi,

Old fart who sort of did things sort of for some schools.

Re: Simple Machines B time to measure ratios of 3 weights
Having now actually been to a competition this year, we won 1st at Chattahoochee with 1 min 18 sec and we didn't do that well on the test, so 2:30 will probably place you at Regionals (depending on what state and what region you compete in).scio_musca wrote:Hi,

Re: Simple Machines B/Compound Machines C
Do any of you who posted your time know how close on average you get to the actual ratios? Thanks.

Re: Simple Machines B/Compound Machines C
Last year we got within about 0.5% almost always, but I haven't tested this year. I don't know how much the ratios will vary in Division C (probably further off because of having two levers, though).chinesesushi wrote:Do any of you who posted your time know how close on average you get to the actual ratios?
