Well, this event isn't necessarily based around species, so I would say that it doesn't really matter. The beetle in question was used as a good example of a certain characteristic indicative of a certain family. Whether or not it will be on a test is probably up to the digression of the test writer, because since it isn't explicitly stated, any world species is fair game. At least, that's my guess.Tiktaalik wrote:Aren't all of the bio ID events only concerned with North American species?balsa wrote:correct. the rules dont say just US insects though right...?Tiktaalik wrote:a giraffe weevil (family Curculionidae, order Coleoptera). Ah ok. That opens up some possibilities for some interesting species. I guess it's my turn, socaseyotis wrote:Well, this event isn't necessarily based around species, so I would say that it doesn't really matter. As for the bug, I haven't studied enough so I have no idea. xDTiktaalik wrote: Ah ok. That opens up some possibilities for some interesting species. I guess it's my turn, so

Order Coleoptera, family Silphidae? Species is, I think, Nicrophorus americanus.

Re: Entomology B/C ID/Question Marathon
burying beetle! Order is of of course Coleoptera and family is Silphidae. The genus is definitely Nicrophorus; I'm thinking the species is N. americanis.
