I have no idea what the coordinators in IL are doing... how did you find out what they are going to use?

For Missouri, they used common household items last year too, but it was K'Nex the year before.

For us at invitationals, it was Tinker Toys, Magnetixs, K'Nex, and STRING! Anything can be used I guess.
We got 2nd anyways :D

Last year I saw a lot of folded paper, cups, and pipe cleaners. The judges weren't usually very specific so at one invite I had the wrong idea about the figure but still did really well.

This is my second year doing WIDI, luckily with the same partner (We're twins, and my coach was convinced twins are really good at it, so we volunteered for the event :P) I'm the writer, and I've been practicing lately by changing up my writing style a ton, and then leaving a highlighter by the paper and telling her to mark anything that doesn't make sense.

Does anyone besides me sometimes find the writing in "Yoda-speak"? Like:
"yellow [insert shape and object] 2 left, 3 down it goes."

Well, this makes sense because one often states the item first, then its location, and then uses a verb, adverb, or preposition to signify direction or placement. I write, so my partner and I have worked out a system using metric and finger measurements, clock positions, and predetermined units to use.

Mines is more like, "put the yellow stick in slot 3", or "put a red piece on the other end of the red stick using slot 5".

I also find that using abbreviations makes it harder.

Has anyone encountered any problems because of the writer's horrible handwriting?

Bad handwriting can be a major issue; the best thing to do is probably practice enough so you can effectively and efficiently interpret it.
