Re: New Jersey 2011
That is impossible to know conclusively. Here's how the system works for nationals: to start out with, every state that runs a state tournament for Science Olympiad gets 1 spot at nationals. Because there are 60 spots at nationals for each division, there are quite a few extra spots. So a second slot is systematically given to the states with the highest participation level in Science Olympiad. Every year a few states opt not to send a team to nationals so the next few states in line receive a spot. So basically, you can't know if New Jersey will get a second spot next year because there are two unknowns: where New Jersey will rank in the line for getting a second spot and how many states will decline their invitation to nationals.JSGandora wrote:Just wondering, is New Jersey going to send two teams next year?
What we can decipher, based on the team numbers from nationals last year is that there were three more states ahead of New Jersey in the line for a second spot in both B div and C Div. So the only way NJ will get a second spot for either division is if they move up around four spots in the order for receiving a second team, four more states drop out of nationals than the number that dropped out last year, or some combination of the two.
When it comes to the future, there are three kinds of people: those who let it happen, those who make it happen, and those who wonder what happened.

For us at (or going to) HSS and HSN, the trouble is not getting to nationals, but making the A-team. D:
