Re: Reach For The Stars

The supervisor for this event in my state was talking to us at an invitational a few weeks ago and he said that this year he's going to do an oral part where he asks us a question and we answer it orally. His example was this: Tell me about the evolution of a star with a diameter of Jupiter's orbit.

Thats really interesting! I wish they did oral tests at my region/state!!! I absolutely love public speaking and we used to do oral tests all the time in elementary school. Unfortunately, it probably takes a lot of time to come up w/ all the questions, the answers, the grading, and in my region, the event would probably go overtime for all the teams that have to answer the question(s). See, our region/state is relatively big.

Then again, at my state they strictly stick to the rules, otherwise you could appeal, and the test would be disqualified (I'm not sure if the appeal system works in all states). The test more or less covers everything on the sheet, and the test is the same for everyone.

Still, I wish we had oral tests too.

What :?: I don't think so I mean the milky way, the band in the sky if your talking about our galaxy the center is a supermassive black hole I can expand more on this if you want but clarify first :geek: , doesn't really have a center. :ugeek:

According to my knowledge, yes. Although it's not the VERY EXACT center, but it's close, probably outside the event horizon.

The * stands for a supernova remnant, though, doesn't it?
Pleiades wrote:Nope, didnt help one bit  Like Starpug said, my test was unusual. That should help for most competitions though. The picture with the blue, white, yellow, and red lines is an H-R diagram. Below that is a table with the spectral classification of stars and their temperature in Fahrenheit, Celsius, and Kelvin as well as their color. To the right of that is a table with the top 20 or so brightest stars, their scientific names, distance, absolute and apparent magnitude, and spectral type.

Both Starpug's sheet and my sheet have pictures of constellations. You should deffinently put the constellations on your sheet because that is what the test is supposed to be mostly about. Then for the rest you might want to put stuff on different types of supernova, and nebulae. you also want to know about the evolution of different sized stars.
We just studied 2 hours every month in the Starlab.

Is sgr* a supernova remnant or is it an object close to the center of the millky way :?: Or both :?: I'm really confused....

I am from North Carolina and in the B division. I was wondering whether you guys could post a few useful websites for constellations, galaxies, clusters, and deep sky objects? :?: :?: :?: :?:
Thanks i need the help :x     :? :o :geek: :ugeek:  :!:  :| :P ;)
