11:26 is very good with 1.5 g of rubber. Trying for the F1M National record was a good idea.

This is the “build and fly” SO Summer Build Clinic. They’re calling it a “deep dive” into each event. I can understand if teams can’t afford the time and $’s for the Summer Institute. We’ll be building a simple airplane with about 60 coaches and then flying it to teach trimming, rubber winding and testing strategy. I’m also bringing materials to demonstrate more advanced ideas if there is an interest (rubber stripping, flaring propellers, propeller pitch testing, etc.). You’ve already made good progress on these advanced concepts.

Time to build an F1D (maybe an F1L, EZB or mini stick first).

Oh my bad, the details I posted were for my official flights at JC. I think I started going for his record 2 hours before I left(lol) and got to around 9:10 or something? Coach Chuck's kids beat me by a good minute and a half without trying, which is predictable. I basically chose a random rubber width, length and just flew ;)
The clinic sounds really cool! I can't ever see my coaches having the patience to do something like that but it's really amazing that you and Dave Lindley are doing this :) I feel like a lot of coaches have given up on Flight at this point(and seeing the drafts for next year, I'm a bit concerned as well...).
Hahah maybe not an F1D... They're very scary :0 I think I'll probably build a ministick when school starts and bring that to some competitions. Working on winding better and taking better logs!

Your building quality is excellent. Your planes are well trimmed. I saw some winding issues which you worked on and improved.

I believe you have the skill set for F1d. It is good to attempt while still a youth as there are opportunities every two years to represent the USA at worlds.

Keep in touch, and if interestedi can point you to a start

Thank you very much! I'll be very busy this year(APs ugh) but I'll build some smaller AMA models to fly along with my SO planes. I've emailed you a question about F1D but I don't know that I can really do anything until next summer or a school break... :(

Where do you get your acetone? I heard from someone at JC that my acetone was contaminated or something(I use nail polish remover) because my Duco mixture kept getting white "blush", and then drying up very fast when exposed to air. Like, within minutes it would be completely dry with a white coat over the top. I keep making new mixtures and they keep drying out. So where do you get yours? Everything online is marketed as "nail polish remover" and I'm concerned that I might make the same mistake and buy another bad bottle.

Nail polish remover is Acetone Based, but is not straight acetone.

Get it by the quart or gallon at Home Depot or other big hardware stores. Maybe not in states like California anymore, but in most states that is where you get it. Paint section, along with the paint thinners etc.
