i think teh probalem was that it was a circumpolar view going all the way down to the celestial equator. That made some of the equatorial constellations quite... distorted lol. Well, whatever, it didn't seem to affect me much... I still got 5th last year :)

They asked you to identify a star's type by giving you apparent color and lightyears from earth!!!
It was insanely hard!!!
That's not even in the rules!!!
What do you mean by type?
I meant like the stars size and color!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Well color you could probably figure out by estimating redshift. Size I'm not completely sure if they only provided apparent color and lightyears.

Srry, 49ers....

Well, I think that if you know where it is on the HR diagram, then you kinda know everything required on the test.
eg: sun.
middle-ish kinda shifted toward the right, on the main sequence:

you know
its yellow
its an average/smaller star
its a G type star
you know the luminosity (1)... etc....

same thing for the rest of the stars.
.... I think....

Re: Reach For the Stars Test Format

for us, typically, some have lines, others don't, however, it is best to know all the constellations because , even if the test gives lines, they are often differently configured than those on your sheet or in your memory

Ex. Ly from earth, Age, where it was on the evolutionary track, apparent mag.

It was set up really nicely, but WAY to easy. I ended up getting 4th ( :D :D :D ) But the top 6 teams in Reach were probably separated by about 10 points, since the test was so easy...

There were one or two hard questions, but that was it. What made it so easy was the fact that the stars of the constellations were inlined, making the identification segment of the test very simple
