In regards to air flow, are you guys "popping" it or letting the air flow at a continuous rate?

Kind of both. It is continuous for a very short time, yet still it is kind of popping it.

Speaking of precision and accuracy, whats considered to be good for a device? Is 10cm deviance from the target good? 20?

How did the top teams at nationals do last year?

1st place got a perfect score and both bucket shots if I'm not mistaken. A competitive device should be within a few centimeters; a really competitive device should be within a centimeter. (This of course varies at different levels of comp. where 10cm might be good at regionals, but bad at nats or states)

Hopefully there aren't any drafts from the ceiling air vents. Last year at States we were in a huge cafeteria and the ceiling had giant air vents and they were on. We were right under it.

I just wanted to ask if anyone had an idea of what we would need for supplies just to start out with. I know that generally PVC pipe and Wood should be used but what kind and size and if there is anything else that I should get. I know that it all depends on the design but I just need to know how much of what to start out with general designs

Obtaining repeatability is probably the toughest portion of this event. Such as it does not shoot the same cold as it does warm. If you use a piston, does it need frequent lubrication? The 2L bottle does not shoot the same as it is used more.

The 2L bottle is the one where you jump on it, like one of those stomp rockets? Someone used one of those at a competition last year, and it didn't work too well.
