Well, everything that's in the rules, to start off with. Maybe skim them and see what you know and what you don't know. And, yes, the Meteorology Wiki is also a good starting resource.

If anything, have a general understanding of air masses and the Koppen climate system. Those will help you understand everything else more easily.

Help sheet can be computer generate. Use the smallest readable font. I use charts such as energy exchange, 3 cell model, and any formulas such as temperature conversion F to C, etc.
General weather background, plus Koppen classification, environmental impact of climate such as green house effect, ozone issues, acid rain.
Check out the test exchange on the wiki site. good luck

Zten wrote:I scanned over this board and could not find a clear answer to my question. I am wondering about what is covered on the Meteorology test. I got a sheet from the teacher at our school organizing the activity. It has a Black border around the sheet and at the bottom the document is labeled "2012-B15". It says what the competition will cover in outline fashion and goes from a thru k. It really seems to be much more focused on Climate than Weather. Yet in the forum I see a lot of discussion about "everyday weather". So is this sheet I have all inclusive of what the students are supposed to learn or is there more?

Second question. The kids can use one 8.5x11 sheet of paper, both sides. Can it be a computer generated document or does it need to be hand written?

Thanks for the help. I'm new to this.

VERY IMPORTANT QUESTION!!!!!!!!
What do we get to bring to the event?
Im on winter break and don't have a copy of the rules
Do we get to bring a binder, one two-sided page of notes, several pages of notes?
Do we get to bring a 'field guide' ?
Do we get to bring any instruments suchas calculators or measuring thingamabobs?
Do we get to bring anything else (besides a copy of the rules & a pencil)?
GUESS WHAT???? I GOTS 1ST PLACE IN ALL MY EVENTS AT CONFERENCE!!!!

We can bring a double-sided notesheet.
Binders are not allowed. Only one page of notes is allowed, double-sided.
You cannot bring a field guide.
You may bring a calculator, but it must be non-graphing. The rules say each participant may bring a calculator.
No other resources are allowed besides the double-sided notesheet, non-graphing calculator, and writing utensils.

Can't think of any valid reason why you'd need a field guide to bring into competition... It wouldn't do you any good.

I agree, the field guide has clouds and other stuff but this year it's mostly about climate.

Besides, you can fit all of your information onto your pages of paper they expect you to study and a field guide would be a cheap easy way out.
