The 3 areas of the competition are:

..........1....Topographic Maps
..........2....Highway Maps
..........3....Student Created Maps

For satellite/aerial photos, exercises in the past asked questions about features in one that required using the other. For Example: How far is it between the 2 lakes in the satellite photo. (Sorry, that's the best I could come up with!)
Information expressed here is solely the opinion of the author. Any similarity to that of the management or any official instrument is purely coincidental! Doing Science Olympiad since 1987!

Huh. That's very interesting. I guess it gives B division participants a little practice for Remote Sensing in C, then?

Can you be more clear? Is a component of Road Scholar changed to satellite images or is satellite imaging an additional thing we have to do?

It appears to be an additional thing, like profiling or UTM.

It's quiet simple on a quad, there should be several numbers on the side of the map going top to bottom. Simply estimate the latitude of a location by fitting it in between two of the numbers, but make sure it's realistic. If it's closer to one number, then estimate closer to that number.

Actually, there is an equation to find it, but I am not my team's topo map guy, so I don't remember it .
