All of our best people graduated last year, but some extra studying might make my team medal in the harder events (e.g. fossils)

No, extra studying is staying up late for a couple hours studying the night before competition. Normal studying is not staying up late studying the day before the competition.

even if you don't do it every night, doing it the night before is pretty normal imo
