Re: Texas 2011
sorry for barging into this discussion, but i was just curious, how do you guys prepare for nats after state since you guys only have like 1 week in between?
i would think there would not be enough time to modify the building events and study more for the sstudy events.

Re: Texas 2011
In recent memory, State has never been this close to Nationals. State standardized testing has messed up with it.
But I would guess that you study for State and you study for Nationals... I don't see why the location of State in this block of studying would affect time. The real challenge is travel accommodations - if we go to Nationals, buying tickets after State would be rather expensive.

I actually think that Easter had more to do with State being moved than standardized testing did, as Easter weekend was the weekend that state normally is.Angstrom wrote:In recent memory, State has never been this close to Nationals. State standardized testing has messed up with it.

Re: Texas 2011
State is normally the last weekend in April, but they scheduled then TAKS tests for that week so they had to move it to the first weekend in May, I don't think Easter had anything to do with itrocketman1555 wrote:I actually think that Easter had more to do with State being moved than standardized testing did, as Easter weekend was the weekend that state normally is.Angstrom wrote:In recent memory, State has never been this close to Nationals. Re: Texas 2011

Re: Texas 2011
It was, in fact, Easter that initially pushed it back an extra week. They would have scheduled State for last weekend, but it was parent's weekend at A&M and all of the hotels in College Station were completely booked.rocketman1555 wrote:I actually think that Easter had more to do with State being moved than standardized testing did, as Easter weekend was the weekend that state normally is.Angstrom wrote:In recent memory, State has never been this close to Nationals. As far as I'm aware, TAKS had nothing to do with it. After all, State is now right in the middle of AP tests.

Re: Texas 2011
According to the Texas Science Olympiad website homepage, it's because of TAKS:
"*It was brought to our attention that TAKS testing takes place on 29 April – the date we had selected for the Texas Science Olympiad. After discussions with the major role players here, and input from several of the coaches, we have decided to move the date of TSO to the following weekend – 6/7 May 2011."

Re: Texas 2011
Hm...well I suppose I stand corrected. I seem to remember having conversations with some of the State people earlier in the year to the contrary, but if that is what they've posted it must be the ultimate reason.

Just for future reference, I am chalker7, not chalker. There are two of us (chalker is my brother). And yes, I will be at State this weekend. I'm running Helicopters and both Optics events.robotman09 wrote:wow just realized you where in texas chalker.
