Re: 2010 National Tournament: University of Illinois
I think most of my team fell asleep during the keynote speaker's talk- not because he was boring, but because we didn't really sleep the night before xD. Ward Melville got 14th overall, but we had a lot of fun .
Anyway, much congratulations to Gelinas on their 3rd place finish (huge margin, too- 102 between 3rd and 4th, while only 7 between 2nd and 3rd)!

also, does anyone know when they post the pictures on the website? I thought that they were taking pictures of the winners but I had no idea where the cameras were.

I'm unsure our precipitate lab worked right, it went from white to white to yellow.masterhat wrote:What did people think about the division C chemistry lab test and labs?

Re: 2010 National Tournament: University of Illinois
I feel sure that Nationals has gotten quite a bit more competitive over the last couple of years. Although I medaled in two events, bringing my school's total over the last ten years (eight trips to Nationals) to three, we did terribly in a lot of events that should have been good, especially considering that the competitors felt really good about how they had done in several of them. Remote Sensing is a good example - last year, with no preparation at all, we placed 12th, and this year, still with no preparation but with a person who is extremely intelligent and can make up for a lack of experience and practice even to the extent of victories at State, we ended up 43rd. I'm definitely disappointed with our team result of 34th because I thought that we had a sufficiently intelligent and prepared team to place easily in the top 25, which would have been our best ever finish, and perhaps we could have done so if we had the same team competing two or three years ago.

State: Chemistry Lab 1st, Cell Biology 1st, Ecology 1st, Environmental Chemistry 2nd
Nationals: Chemistry Lab 32nd, Cell Biology 4th, Environmental Chemistry 5th, Forensics 37th
It's hard to accept that for me, there isn't a next year.

I didn't feel it was boring either. I was going on 5 hours of sleep a night for a week.Phenylethylamine wrote:I think most of my team fell asleep during the keynote speaker's talk- not because he was boring, but because we didn't really sleep the night before xD. That's what it was supposed to do. That's why it was a Ksp lab.Sir_L_Jenkins wrote:Aye, that's what ours did too.starpug wrote:I'm unsure our precipitate lab worked right, it went from white to white to yellow.masterhat wrote:What did people think about the division C chemistry lab test and labs?
I found the reaction rates/titration lab pretty interesting but it was hard to take accurate data with no timers
