Is this an IMA of 3 or an IMA of 1 or of _______?

It's an IMA of 1. If the load was also attached to the movable pulley, it would be an IMA of 3 (assuming I remember how to do this correctly).

Alright that makes sense thx

If an object were attached to a moveable section of a pulley system by a fixed length string, it would be physically the same as attaching the object directly to the moveable section of the pulley system, right?

A load that attaches to a tackle by a hook or other means fixed length means is an essential piece of block and tackle pulleys. Block and tackle pulleys are pretty key in getting an IMA of 7 (from what I've seen and read today), so to say the object can not be attached to the moveable section of the pulley, the tackle, would make this task much much harder. It would also make achieving a .5 IMA almost impossible (if not impossible?).

Does this logic make sense?
Sidenote: I have not officially picked this event up, but I find it interesting and from the post above you can tell I'm toying with ideas. IDK exactly what I'm talking about

Is it ok to use lead beads like these (https://www.rotometals.com/pure-lead-nu ... gIHt_D_BwE) for weights, as long as they are entirely enclosed?

I would recommend against it. I've known teams to be penalized for lead that was completely enclosed in the past.

We used rolls of pennies

You could also borrow a 500g mass from your physics department

Okay so I just realized that since the IMA is 7, it would require a weight to fall 70cm to lift something 10cm. The maximum height of the device is 60cm, so how am I going to pull the pulley up 10cm?

Use a motor or have a 7:1 gear system so that a weight only needs to fall 10 cm to lift up the other 10 cm. You could make the heavier weight only slightly heavier and use this as a mechanical timer.
