Yeah I have to agree. Plus you say "underperform at MIT" when they got 6th one year and then the next year weren't in the Top 10 (which was due to problems with administration). I wouldn't really call that underperforming.Adi1008 wrote:I'd be shocked if Clements is anything worse than 7th-8th; they're coming off a 6th place finish at nationals.kenniky wrote:17. Predictions :O Probably absolutely wrong
Troy A
Harriton
Solon
LASA
Seven Lakes
Troy B ( I actually think they might get 1st and surprise us all )
Clements
Mentor
The bottom part here is all basically equal where factors on competition day will probably determine rankings (just listing a bunch of schools)
ABRHS
Columbia
Boca Raton
Mason
Montgomery
Columbia
Chattahoochee
Newton South
And just wondering- do most teams bring full builds to MIT or somehow builds mysteriously do poorly at events for some unforeseeable reason

Re: MIT Invitational 2018
I wish my school could go to MIT, if only just to see how we do against really good schools. Unfortunately, it seems that Montgomery will be the only one of the NJ teams going...Raleway wrote:Predictions :O Probably absolutely wrong

I wouldn't rank Mentor quite so highly, several of the teams in your bottom part have regularly beaten them in the past.Raleway wrote:Predictions :O Probably absolutely wrong

Re: MIT Invitational 2018
Little bit of both. Some high-aiming teams with complicated designs need 6-8 months to actually build and debug their devices and only aim to succeed at nationals and therefore their builds that are brought to Invitationals and Regionals are nowhere near ready. Other teams find a consistently strong build design that they can construct and debug within 2-3 months and will bring to competition.Raleway wrote: And just wondering- do most teams bring full builds to MIT or somehow builds mysteriously do poorly at events for some unforeseeable reason
In both scenarios, it is rare for even the highest caliber of teams to bring a "fake" device to invites to hide their real device unless it is a game changing design so you can assume that 99% of devices are the real thing. I do know of exceptions that have occured in the past, but they are very few and far between.

Just signed up to volunteer...anyone wanna do a scioly.org meetup? I've never been so I don't know how the details and such work but I'd go if there is one.

I'd recommend using that same lobby that we were in last year, just east along the main hall from the central dome and on the southern side of the hall. I can't remember the name, but it has lots of green chairs.
