Not gonna lie, those sound like reasonable placings for your 1st time doing SciOly. However, given that your school looks ultra-competitive, it doesn't really seem fair that he's on your A-team.

OK, so I'm confused here. This kid changed schools just so that he could be on a scioly team? Or he changed schools anyway, for other reasons, and then got put on the A team at his new school? And is this just a little schadenfreude to liven up the day? How does placing 3, 6, and 8 compare to the general performance of his new school at regionals?

I just took my first ap exam a couple days ago and my possible score is already making me anxious (i'm definitely right on the borderline between two scores and obviously i want the higher one)

but i shouldn't think too hard about a test after it's over
