Re: Fossils B/C
Well its just like any other test-you have ID and they make you tell the taxonomic ranks. They also like to ask composition of skeletal material and fun trivia as well. And there's anatomy as well so know Saurischia v Ornithiscia, pedicle, etc. Its basically just like any general fossils test but be sure to work fast because they usually have lots of questions with not a lot of time.

Re: Fossils B/C
For Saurischia vs. Ornithschia will they want you to just say "Bird-Hipped' vs. "Lizard Hipped", or will they go deeper into the anatomy...
I'm so bad at the skeletal structure. >< What did you use to learn of the skeletal structures of the various organisms? I know it's typically calcite, chitin, or aragonite, but I don't know how to distinguish which one.

Um, you should probably know about nautiloids and crinoids too. One time, I was asked to label a bunch of bones on a Dino.JoJoKeKe wrote:For Saurischia vs. Ornithschia will they want you to just say "Bird-Hipped' vs. "Lizard Hipped", or will they go deeper into the anatomy...

Re: Fossils B/C
I thought the Nautiloid Suture Lines was only for Division C? What else would they want you to know about them???
I know the Calyx on the Crinoid and that jazz... but I guess that's all I know about them... (Aren't they Filter feeders, too?)

I wouldn't know, but here: http://www.ucmp.berkeley.edu/diapsids/dinomm.htmlJoJoKeKe wrote:For Saurischia vs. Ornithschia will they want you to just say "Bird-Hipped' vs. "Lizard Hipped", or will they go deeper into the anatomy...
Also, the orders of all the dinosaurs are already on the list, so if you have to identify which are Saurischia/Ornithischia, just refer to that

Re: Fossils B/C
I don't know about Div B but you should know how the ilium, ischium, and pubis are oriented.

Re: Fossils B/C
Oh also, nautiloids have sutures but there's only one pattern. Ammonoids have the 3 major suture patterns-Goniatitic, Ceratitic, and Ammonitic

Yes, it's supposed to only be for Div C, but (as it is with most study events) it's good to know more than you're "expected" to.JoJoKeKe wrote:I thought the Nautiloid Suture Lines was only for Division C? What else would they want you to know about them???

Re: Fossils B/C
It's not really that I'm not memorizing, just that memorization for me is a byproduct of resource-building. I think I've memorized enough to do well on the faster tests (well, as fast as I know of; which I suppose must be fast enough for Nationals since our coach has gotten the school medals at Nationals twice in this event).varunscs11 wrote:Come the end of the year I have a lot memorized which is good for fast testsUnome wrote:Looks like I'm the only one not memorizing stuff.coprolite_dipstick wrote: Honestly...
